Mechanical Engineering day & International Women’s Day (8th March, 2017)

Mechanical Engineering Day & International Women’s Day were celebrated by MAQUINA club of Mechanical Engineering Department of Maharaja Agrasen University on 8th March, 2017 in the University Campus. Various Technical activities like Design competition, Model display competition, Quiz competition and Insta video along with some cultural activities like Bhangra were held. Around two hundred students took part in all the events. A ‘Nukad Natak’ was also played by the students on the theme of ‘Women Empowerment’. The event ended by distributing prizes and certificates to all the winners.

Short Term Course (STC) on VLSI Design Through ICT (14th to 18th March, 2017)

MAHARAJA AGRASEN UNIVERSITY has become a remote center to train and upgrade faculty members in the field of VLSI Design. The University had organized a five day short term course on “VLSI DESIGN THROUGH ICT” which was conducted by NITTTR Chandigarh from 14th to 18th March, 2017. It was co-ordinated by Dr. Rajesh Mehra, Dr. Aradhana Mehta and Mr. Pankaj Nanglia. This STC discussed Xilinx ISE and Microwind Software that are used for front End and Back End in VLSI Design. Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof.(Dr.) RK Gupta, Project Incharge Sh. Suresh Gupta and Prof.(Dr.) Aradhana Mehta congratulated faculty members and coordinators for successful organization and completion of the course.

Model Display Competition (INNOTECH-2017) (17th to 19th March, 2017)

A national level scientific model display competition (INNOTECH-2017) was conducted at Pushpa Gujral Science city (Kapurthala) from 17th to 19th March, 2017. In this competition two projects of Maharaja Agrasen University (Baddi) were displayed by the engineering students of Maharaja Agrasen Institute of technology. The project names are “CNC Milling machine” and “Home security system, with and without microcontroller”. Students of MAIT won consolation prize of 3000 rupees for home security system along with memento and certificates.

International Day of Happiness (20th March, 2017)

International Day of Happiness was celebrated by Transformer club of Electrical Engineering Department, Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology (MAIT) on 20th March, 2017 in the University Campus. Various Sports activities like Cricket, Push-ups, Arm wrestling, Badminton, Electro-techno balance, Three leg race, Tug of war and Ping Pong games were held. Students from various departments of University took part in these events. The event concluded by prize and certificate distribution to all the winners by the Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) R.K Gupta, Sh. Suresh Gupta, Project In charge and Prof. (Dr.) Aradhana Mehta, Director, MAIT, Maharaja Agrasen University.

Seminar on the Awareness of Patents and Intellectual Property Rights(22nd March, 2017)

Maharaja Agrasen University organized a Seminar for the awareness of Patents and Intellectual property rights for the faculty and researchers on 22nd March, 2017. Mr. Pranav Sharma, team leader from XLpad Chandigarh was the resource person. The focus of seminar was to encourage intellectual property rights in India. Different issues related to patents were emphasized. Seminar discussed how patents are different from research papers, and why one should file patents for innovative research work. The Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) R.K Gupta, Sh. Suresh Gupta, Project in charge Maharaja Agrasen University encouraged faculty to file patents related to their fields. The Workshop was coordinated by Dr. Kuldeep Sharma.

Workshop on “Open Stack” a Cloud Software (23rd March, 2017)

Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) organized a workshop on “Open Stack” a Cloud Software on 23rd March,2017 .The Workshop was conducted by Mr Navdeep Mangal, Director Research & Development and Mr. Hind Sharma Manager Operations, Netmax Technologies, Chandigarh.

More than 100 students & 08 Faculty members of Computer Science & Engineering participated in this hands-on learning opportunity. Students learned the concepts of Cloud Computing, They were engaged into intricacies of OpenStack Cloud Software. They were demonstrated how OpenStack controls large pools of compute, storage, and networking resources throughout a datacenter, all managed through a dashboard that gives administrators control while empowering their users to provision resources through a web interface. It was a very learning and interactive session for the students where all the queries put up by the students were answered to their full satisfaction. The Vote of thanks was given by Mr. Sushil Bansal HOD Computer Science & Engineering Department.

Site visit - Synergy Thrislington (20th April, 2017)

A site visit was organised under the guidance of Dr. Aradhana Mehta (Director MAIT) on 20th April, 2017 for B.Tech 4th Semester and M.E students of Civil engineering Department to Synergy Thrislington, A1, Phase-1, Industrial Area, Mohali. In total Twenty Three students and five faculty members were present.

The purpose of visiting a ‘real-life’ example of engineering is to gain a better sense of your field at work.

The trip was a huge success as students were able to relate and learned the practical aspects of the theoretical subjects that they study in their classes. Highlights of the Site Building (INSTACON) are as follows:-

The building was completed by assembling the 200- tonne of material, having an area of over 25,000 square meters within the stipulated time of 48 hours. It's a tube-in-tube structure. There will be no problem of seepage or leakage. "The building is earth quake resistant; building's deflection in case of strong winds and earthquakes comes to 49 mm as against 123 mm deflection allowed by the government for conventional buildings.

Site Visit- Central Library (Panjab University) (20th April, 2017)

A site visit was organised under the guidance of Dr. Aradhana Mehta (Director MAIT) on 20th Apr’17 for B.Tech 4th Semester and M.E students of Civil engineering Department to Central Library of the Panjab University. We were surprised to see the size of the building. It was huge and clean. The Library personnel have attended us and gave a brief idea to the students about the working system of the library.

Guest Lecture on Design of connecting Rod (21st April, 2017)

A Guest Lecture was conducted for 6th semester Mechanical students by Prof. (Dr.) O. P. Grover from MAIT, Delhi. Topic of the lecture was design of connection rod for internal combustion engines. Guest Lecture started at 10:30 a.m. and continued for 2 hrs. Following topics were discussed in the lecture:

Guest Lecture on Use of Gas Turbine Power Plant as Peak Load Plants(21st April, 2017)

A Guest Lecture was conducted for 6th semester Mechanical students by Prof. (Dr.) Y. V. S. R. Sastry from MAIT, Delhi. In his lecture, Prof. Sastry discussed about working of Gas Turbine and explained both Open Cycle and Closed Cycle Gas Turbines and about the current scenario of Gas Turbine Power Plants. He also explained the Combined Cycle Power Plant. Students clarified various doubts regarding working of power plants.

A site visit was organised on 22th Apr’17 for B.Tech 6th Semester students of Civil Engineering Department to Water Works, Sector-39, Chandigarh. In total Twenty Three students and two faculty members were present. The purpose of visiting a ‘real-life’ example of engineering is to gain a better sense of your field at work. The trip was a huge success as students were able to relate and learned the practical aspects of the theoretical subjects that they study in their classes.

The doubts and questions of the students were answered excellently by the staff of water works 39, which helped the students to gain in-depth knowledge.

Highlights of the Site visit are as follows:-
  • • The city has been divided into 6 zones for the purpose of Water supply keeping in view the slope of the city
  • • Each of these zones is fed through an independent water works namely Water Works-52, 39, 37, 32, 26, 12.
  • • These Water Works’ are fed from Mother Water Works i.e. Water Works-39, which receive canal water from Water Works Kajauli and various Tube-wells (about 80 Nos.) spread all over Chandigarh.
  • • The canal water as received from water works Kajauli is treated at the water treatment plant Water Works-39.

Online FDP on Networking Simulation & related Technologies (May 11, 2017))

An online FDP on ‘Networking Simulation & related Technologies using NetSim Software’ was organized by Deptt. of ECE, MAIT on May 11th, 2017 (Thursday), which was conducted by DELLSOFT for the faculty of ECE, CSE and EEE. It was co-ordinated by Mr. Naveen Goel. This FDP discussed the NetSim Software that is used for Simulation of various kind of networks like MANETs, WSNs and Internet of Things (IOT).

TECHGIG CODE Gladiators 2017 Competition (Won cash prize of 1 lakh) (7th-9th June 2017)

Three Students of Maharaja Agarsen Institute of Technology (MAIT), Baddi have participated in TECHGIG CODE Gladiators 2017 Competitions held at Bangalore India from 7th-9th June 2017. The Event was sponsored by Deloitte. The Team of Maharaja Agrasen University, MAIT, Baddi comprising of thi rd year students of Computer Science & Engineering were Runner Up of IOT Theme in the Competition and have won cash prize of Rs. 1 Lakh. More than 400 Teams from throughout India and Abroad have participated in IOT Theme of this Competition. Team members were Jatin Jain; Priyanshu Kumar; Akshay Kumar Yadav.

FDP on Professional Development and Learning Strategies (29th and 30th June, 2017)

Maharaja Agrasen University organized two days Faculty Development Programme in the university campus on 29th and 30th June 2017. Prof. R.K. Gupta, honourable Vice Chancellor Maharaja Agrasen University, Baddi emphasized on the need of organizing such faculty development programs in order to enhance teaching and communication skills of the teachers. Sh. Suresh Gupta, Project Incharge, Maharaja Agrasen University welcomed the guests on the dice. On the first day, Dr. Rakesh Khullar from Panjab University Chandigarh delivered lecture on stress management techniques. He demonstrated the causes of stress with real life examples like five regrets of life that every human being have when his or her death comes near. He also, discussed the ways to cure and prevent stress. In the second session, Prof. P.K. Singla, NITTTR Chandigarh, imparted his expertise on setting up of question papers to the faculty of the university. The preparation of table of specifications was taught to the faculty so that question papers can be set in a standardized way. He also guided faculty on the curriculum implementation with inputs from industry. In the last session, Dr. Sumit Kumar, from IIT Dhanbad, focused on important steps for preparing DST projects. He illustrated diverse methods of writing research proposals to various funding agencies. He also emphasized on the need of accurate cost estimation of projects.

On the second day, Ms. Sarita from Maharaja Agrasen University, delivered lecture on time management and emphasized on how to use time effectively so that the right time is allocated to right activity. Ms. Shivani Mahajan from Maharaja Agrasen University, stressed on benefits of time management that includes saving time, reducing anxiety, smooth functioning of task, increasing work output and have more control over job responsibilities. Ms. Kamal Handa of Maharaja Agrasen University gave expert talk on effective communication. She defined effective communication to produce intended or desired results. She also explained the 7 Cs for effective communication that are Completeness, Conciseness, Consideration, Clarity, Concreteness, Courtesy and Correctness. The barriers for effective communication are also illustrated. Dr. Suchet Kumar from Rayat College of Law Ropar demonstrated various teaching methodologies required for better understanding in the classroom. He differentiated between the traditional and modern teaching methodologies. He also emphasized on the appropriate teaching method based on nature of subject. The last session was taken by Dr. Anil Bhansali of PGIMER, Chandigarh. He demonstrated various causes and treatments of diabetics. He illustrated symptoms of type-I and type-II diabetes that includes shaking, fast heartbeat, sweating, dizziness, anxious and hunger. He also advised to follow the right diet chart and exercising regularly. In the end, Prof. Aradhana Mehta, Director Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology gave vote of thanks to all the speakers and the members of organizing staff.
